ROGER ALLAN RASCOE, 69, of Wallkill NY, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021. Roger was born in Lyon Mountain, NY to Oscar and Marie Rascoe on December 28, 1951. He was a graduate of Lyon Mountain High School and earned a bachelor’s degree at SUNY New Paltz.
A dedicated public servant with a passion for politics, Roger touched many lives with his larger-than-life personality. Roger served in the United State Army, Campus Police for SUNY New Paltz, former Sr. Counselor for NYS Department of Corrections, and retired as Director of New York State Child & Family Services in the Goshen NY facility. He was the past Assistant Chief and is an honorary member of the Wallkill Fire Department, and a former Councilman for the Town of Shawangunk.
He currently served as Ulster County Republican Chairman, Commander of American Legion Rose-Sheeley Post 1034, and the Secretary and Treasurer of the Shawangunk Valley Fire District, member of the Shawangunk Zoning Board. Roger was a member of the Rondout Lodge #343 of the Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York. He recently was admitted and constituted a noble of the Shriners International. Roger was an avid hunter and member of the Camp Kettle Hunting Club of Lyon Mountain, NY. He was a compassionate mentor and friend to many.
Most importantly, Roger was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle to the family that he cherished. He is survived by his loving wife Jane (Sawyer); parents by marriage George and Barbara Sawyer, children Barbara Fotopoulos and her husband Leo, Renée DeGroat and her husband Kevin, David Thomas, and Adrienne Rascoe; grandchildren Nicole, Kraig, Leo, Abreeanna, George, Andrew, Avery, Reagan, and Carter; great-grandson Zane; siblings Bill Rascoe and his wife Mary, David Rascoe and his wife Tina, Gloria Trombley and her husband Carl, Carolyn LaFountain and her husband Peter, and Joanne Rascoe and her wife Anna; numerous nieces and nephews including beloved hunting partners Neil Trombley and Jason Rascoe; sisters-in-law Kathy Joray and her husband Wayne, Betsy Bain and her husband Jay, and Susan Jackowski and her husband Frank. Roger is predeceased by his parents, Oscar and Marie.
On Friday, November 5, 2021 visitations will be held from 10:00-1:00 and 4:00-7:00.
On Saturday, November 6 visitation will be from 11:00-12:00 followed by a celebration of Roger’s life officiated by Pastor Robert Hewitt. All services to be held at William M. Gagan Funeral Home, 1525 Burlingham Road, Pine Bush, NY.
