Marion Fleming
Bradenton, Florida
"Now is your time of grief,
But I will see you again
And you will rejoice and no
One will take away your joy"
(John 16:22)
On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, Marion Fleming of Bradenton Florida and New Marlborough Massachusetts passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Pine Bush, New York.
Marion was born in New York City on June 5, 1934, to the late Dorothy Russell and John Long. She graduated high school, married her childhood sweetheart, Robert and together, raised two children. She worked by day for Estee Lauder at their corporate offices in Manhattan, and by night, she was Chief Usherette at the Belasco Theatre on Broadway. She later became Vice President of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) in New York City.
She and her husband built a log home in the Berkshire Mountains where she lived happily for over 25 years. She loved sewing and crocheting clothes for her grandchildren and was a member of the Berkshire Quilters Guild in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. She made quilts for each member of the family, for friends and for hospice patients.
In later years, she retired to the warm and sunny Paradise Bay in Bradenton, Florida to be among her childhood friends and many new friends. She believed that living in Florida was like being on vacation “every day.” She loved Florida, where she enjoyed friendship, BINGO, shopping, riding her tricycle and enjoying evening sunsets.
She touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marion is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Colleen Fleming-Damon and William Damon, grandchildren Sarah (David), Brian (Shanely), Meghan (Patrick) and Allison (James) and 2 great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Robert Vincent Fleming, son Dr. Robert Allan Fleming, daughter-in-law Janet (Heins) and brother William Kennelly.
A celebration of her life will be held in Bradenton Florida and New Marlborough, MA in Spring 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, New York 12550.
