Harold Lynn Dickson of Walker Valley, NY, a retired Senior Treatment Assistant for the department of mental hygiene at Mid-Hudson Psychiatric Center, and a 50-year resident of the area passed away on Wednesday January 17, 2024. He was 92.
The son of the late Donald M. Dickson and Alice P. Brown Dickson, he was born November 27, 1931, in Central Islip, Long Island, NY. Harold was a highly decorated veteran of the First Marine Division during the Korean War. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans chapter 212, Goshen, NY, where for a number of years he was a Vice-Commander. Harold was a Legislative Chairman for the DAV where he was responsible for presenting laws in defense of veteran's rights. He was a life member of the VFW Post 5492 Pine Bush, NY for 50 years where he held the position of Commander, life member of the American Legion G. Paul Bettinger Post 1308 Pine Bush, NY, life member of the Retired Employees of Public Association (REPA), and a lifetime member of council 82 Retirees' Union where he was Vice President and President. Harold received a Bachelor of Science from NYU in banking and accounting. He attended Westchester & Dutchess community college studying corrections, attended the NY Police Academy in 1961, narcotics training in NYC in 1972, and corrections school in 1974. Harold and his wife owned Walker Valley Carpet and Cleaning Co. from 1970-1990. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 54yrs. Margaret S. Dickson. Survivors include his daughter Dyanne of Walker Valley, NY, son, Brian of Walden, NY, son, Patrick (Roxanna) of Walker Valley, NY. Grandchildren, Ashley (Kevin), Michael, Ryan (Kalie), Adrianna, Patrick, Robert, Stephanie, Aislin and Brandon. Great grandchildren Logan, Willow, Bryce &Lily. He is also survived by one brother James (Joan) Dickson and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday January 22, 2023 from 2-6pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc. 1525 Burlingham Rd. Pine Bush NY. Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday January 23, 2024 at 10am at the Church of the Infant Saviour.
