Obituary of Josephine Christakos

Josephine Christakos Pine Bush, NY Josephine Christakos, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, passed away on Saturday October 23, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY. She was 95. The daughter of the late Anthony Veltre and Concetta LaBue Veltre, she was born on October 19, 1915 in NYC. Josephine was a swimming and diving coach for Julia Richman HS in Manhattan, and a Girl Scout Brownie Leader. She was a sports enthusiast who especially loved the New York Yankees. Josephine was a very political woman and a great cook who was known for her Sunday dinners. She was a loving, dedicated, and giving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and mother in law. Josephine was also a member of the Church of the Infant Saviour. Survivors include her loving children, Anthony Christakos and his wife Grace of Stony Point, Connie Manco and her husband Charles of Orlando, FL, son in law John Chessari of Pine Bush, daughter in law Kathy Christakos of Staten Island, brother, Joseph Veltre and his wife Anna Marie, sister in law, Grace Veltre, 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Anthony Christakos, daughters, Anne Fenner and Joann Chessari, son James Christakos, sisters, Tiny Termine and Suzanna Bodis, and brother, Michael Veltre. Visitation will be held on Tuesday October 26, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home, 1525 Burlingham RD Pine Bush NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday October 27, 2010 at 10:00am at the Church of the Infant Saviour with Fr. Kevin Gallagher officiating. Burial will take place at Wallkill Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers the family has asked to make a donation in Josephine's name to the American Cancer Society, 419 E.
