Mary Frances Low Schmidt
Mary Frances Low Schmidt, a lifelong Pine Bush resident, passed away on December 6, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Arden Hill Campus.
She was born on September 17, 1924, the daughter of the late Mary Frances Low Chase and William Low of Pine Bush.
Mary was retired from US Postal Service where she was a rural carrier out of Wallkill for 23 years. Mary really enjoyed her job, but was forced to retire due to back problems. She was a member of the Pine Bush Senior Citizens. She also belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of G. Paul Bettinger Post 1308. Mary was a former member of The New Prospect Church.
Mary was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Alfred Schmidt.
Survivors include her brother, George Low of Pine Bush; one stepsister Iola Held of Connecticut; a stepbrother Harvey Chase of Arizona. She was predeceased by a stepbrother Fred Chase. She is also survived by her only son, Alfred and his wife Lori of Wallkill and their two sons, Michael and Christopher Schmidt; her daughter, Dr. Tracey Schmidt DeYoung and her husband Dennis; her daughter Robin Cozzette and her husband James of Middletown; one special niece that was by her side Janet Weed of New Hampton; many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and many, many wonderful friends especially her best friend, Stacia A. Kelley of Pine Bush.
She will be missed by her four beloved cats.
A family statement reads, "Mom gave her family and friends the true meaning of love. She taught us you don't have to have a lot of money to have a rich life. Family, friends and her cats meant the most to mom. She cherished her only two grandchildren, Michael and Christopher. The family memories will live on in our hearts for the rest of our lives. We could not have asked for a better role model to teach us about life."
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, December 9 at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home, 1525 Burlingham Road, Pine Bush. The G. Paul Bettinger Post 1308 Auxiliary will have a service at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 10 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Robert Hewitt will officiate.
Burial will take place in the family plot in the Bruynswick Cemetery, Wallkill.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked to make donations to Furever Animals, PO Box 261, Montgomery, NY 12549. Mom really believed in this organization that helped her out.
