Obituary of August F. Mayer

August F. Mayer, 92 Pine Bush, NY August F. Mayer a lifelong resident of the area died on Thursday April 23, 2009 at home. He was 92. Born August 24, 1916 in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Edmund J. Mayer and Anna Bear Mayer. Augie (Gus) was a lifetime area resident, with a long history in Pine Bush. He was a dedicated and hard worker, and had worked on many local farms in his youth as well as helped his mother in the family boarding house on Sinsabaugh Road in Pine Bush. His career as a truck driver for Interstate Bag Company in Walden, NY spanned many years, as did his long and lasting friendships he met along the way. His kindness and gentleness were reflected in his love of nature especially as he would take a walk in the woods, carefully watching the birds while feeding them or enjoying the beauty of his flower gardens. Augie was a former member of the Knights of Pythias, New York State Sheriff's Association, and the Shawangunk Snowmobile & Rescue Club. He will be sadly missed by those who loved him. Survivors include one niece, Virginia Greaves of Red Hook, NY and Beloved friends Janice and Joseph Blazeski of Pine Bush. Visitation will be held on Monday April 27, 2009 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc. 1525 Burlingham Rd, Pine Bush. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Robert B. Hewitt officiating. Burial will follow at the New Prospect Cemetery, Pine Bush, NY.
