George M. Nye, a retired Plant Superintendent 37yrs for the NYS
Dept of Corrections at Mid-Orange in Warwick, and lifetime resident
of the area, passed away on Tuesday March 31, 2015 at Orange
Regional Medical Center. He was 77. The son of the late
Calvin Nye and Harriett Mitchell Nye, he was born on August 11,
1937 in Middletown, NY. George graduated from Middletown High
School, Class of 1955. A Veteran of the US Marine Corp.
George served his county from 1955-1959. George was a member
for 50 years and former Elder of the Hopewell Presbyterian Church,
Board Member with the Town of Crawford Planning Commission, served
on the Hopewell Cemetery Committee, the Shawangunk Valley Garden
Club and was the President of The National Organization of Power
Engineers and avid sports fan. His grandchildren referred to
him as a "Loving Papa and Grandpa". Survivors include his
wife Ruth of 53 years at home, 4 children; Suzanne M. Nye of
Rotterdam, NY, Corinne A. Nye -Lemmon and her husband Jim of
Sterling, Mass., Jennifer L. Nye of London, England, George "Mitch"
Nye II and his wife Marilynn of Pine Bush. Grandchildren; Hannah
Nye, Tiffany Nye, Adele Nye, and George Nye III, James Lemmon,
Shaina Lemmon, and Lauren Lemmon, brother; J. Phillip Nye and his
wife Ellie of Warwick, 2 sisters; Sandra Miller of Middletown and
Barbara Clark of Middletown, sister in law; Lillian Corkey of Pine
Bush. George is further survived by several nieces, nephews,
and cousins. He is predeceased by his sister; Georgette Masi,
brothers in law; Roland Miller, John Masi, John Clark, and Donald
Corkey, and nephew, Steven Corkey. Visitation will be held on
Friday April 3, 2015 from 3-7pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral
Home Inc. 1525 Burlingham Rd Pine Bush. Funeral services will be
offered on Saturday April 4, 2015 at 11am at the Hopewell
Presbyterian Church in Thompson Ridge with Pastor David Widmer
officiating. Burial will take place in Hopewell Cemetery.
