Obituary of Gladys I. Romano

Gladys I. Romano Gladys I. Romano, formerly of Slate Hill, a retired line operator for Lederele Laboratory, Pearl River, and 35-year resident of the area, died April 22, 2006 at St. Lukes Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh. She was 89. The daughter of Hienz Richter and Sarah Richter, she was born June 14, 1916 in Purdy Station, N.Y. She was the widow of Nicholas A. Romano. A family statement reads, "Gladys was a devoted mother and grandmother and a very strong supporter of her family, who led by example. Her gardens were show places. Gladys devoted her life to special care of her animals. She was well ahead of her time as a self-sufficient, independent woman. A special thank you to the wonderful friends and administrators at Johnes Home in Balmville. The family would like to thank the hospital personnel at St. Lukes Hospital in Newburgh for the wonderful care of Gladys. Special thanks to Judy Pellegriano, nursing supervisor who went out of her way on behalf of Gladys and her family in their time of need." Surviving are her sons, Joseph and wife Jane of Middletown and Nicholas of Port Jervis; two grandchildren, Joseph Romano of Middletown and Sarah Jane Romano of Boulder, Colo.; one brother, Kenneth Richter of Charlotte, N.C.
