Eliasz Sobotnik
Eliasz Sobotnik, a longtime resident of the area, died Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He was 90.
The son of the late Julian Sobotnik and Franciszka Holownicka Sobotnik, he was born on June 7, 1916 in Poland. He was the widower of the late Zofia Wenglarz Sobotnik, who died on August 25, 2003.
Mr. Sobotnik was a maintenance engineer for Bulova Watch Co., Queens, N.Y. He was a member of St. Paul's R.C. Church in Bullville. Eliasz served with the Polish Army and took part in the Campaign in Poland. He joined the Polish Forces in the USSR. After crossing the Russo/Persian border with his unit, they came under British command in the Middle East. He served in Italy and the United Kingdom until his discharge and part of the Italian Campaign.
Survivors include his two loving sons, Richard Sobotnik and his wife, Diana of Poughguag, N.Y., and Robert Sobotnik and his wife, Lucy of Oceanside, Long Island, N.Y.; six beloved grandchildren: Richard Jr., Sean, Krista, Robert Jr., Nicole, and Michael, and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home, 1525 Burlingham Rd., Pine Bush.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's R.C. Church, Bullville with Fr. Patrick Mc Guigan, O. Carm. officiating. Burial will be in New Prospect Cemetery.
