Louis Edward Springer
Pine Bush, NY
Louis Edward Springer, a longtime resident of the area and a
retired Millwright for Local 740 Carpenters Union, passed away
peacefully in his home on Wednesday, October 29, 2014. He was
94 years old. The son of the late Louis Edward Springer and Mary
Coyle Springer, he was born April 6, 1920 in Hell's Kitchen in New
York City. Louis' was a life well lived. He was truly a part
of "The Greatest Generation". After high school he worked in
Manhattan. He joined the army in 1942. During WW II
Louis attained the rank of Sergeant as was part of the 501 Gun
Battalion serving in the Pacific campaign. He lived
through D-Day on Saipan in June of 1944. He returned home to
Grace, the love of his life in December of 1945. Louis and
Grace were married 53 years. Louis moved to the area in 1988
where he became a member of the Church of the Infant Saviour , the
VFW and the Catholic War Veterans. They were an incredible couple
who served as an inspiration to all who knew them. After Grace
passed away in March, 2006, Louis carried on. He did this
without complaint. Always a role model, he lead his family
sharing his wisdom and knowledge, giving strength and
support. He did this with dignity and selflessness.
Louis is survived by his two children, Richard Springer and his
wife Jeanette, who reside in Floral Park and Laurel Fisch and her
husband Steve, who reside in Pine Bush. Louis had 7
grandchildren: Jennifer, Louis, Joseph, Michael, Benjamin, Aaron
and Sarah and 11 great-grandchildren. Along with his wife
Grace, Louis is predeceased by his sister Evelyn Toelke.
Louis has left an amazing legacy. He lived a good life, a
man who could be trusted, a man to respect. He instilled the
values of honor and service in his family. He was very well
read and enjoyed discussions around the table, along with his
martini.
Louis loved the music of the 30's and 40's and the women's hairdos
of the time. He loved to dance, and he and Grace did it
well. Louis was a craftsman building and fixing most anything
from Adirondack chairs to wooden ship models. Most of all,
Louis was a good man loved by many. We will miss him greatly but
know he is at peace and finally reunited with his beloved
Grace. We love you, Louis Edward Springer. Visitation will be
