Sophie Pirog Stueber
Pine Bush, NY
Sophie T. Stueber, a longtime resident of the area, passed away
on October 25, 2010 at home surrounded by her loving family after a
long battle with Cancer. Sophie was the daughter of Polish
immigrants, Anthony and Anelka Pirog and was born on October 13,
1915 in Passaic, NJ. Her family relocated to Pine Bush where
she met and married Frank Stueber. Sophie was a 75 year
communicant at the Church of the Infant Saviour, and was a member
of the "Red Hat Society" until she became ill. A family
statement reads that "Sophie was the model mother, grandmother,
great grandmother, and great great grandmother, who loved and
adored her large family and was famous for her Christmas Cookies,
Teddy Bears, and Feather Beds. On Sophie's 90th
birthday, she was the guest of honor at a big birthday party given
in her honor by her loving granddaughters, Mary Grass and Tami
Cohen. At age 90 she was treated to her first vacation and first
plane ride on a family vacation with 20 family members to San Juan,
Puerto Rico. Sophie will be very sadly missed by her entire
family. Sophie is survived by her 3 loving children, Francis
Stueber Jr, Patricia Brown Davis, and Thomas Stueber and his wife
Carol Suffern Stueber, her grandchildren, Patty Kelly and husband
Mike of CO, Mary Grass and her husband Mike, and Francis Stueber
III and his wife Cathy of CA, Kim Brown, Harry Brown II and his
wife Cheri of Malta, NY, Tami Cohen and her husband Larry of
Bedford, NY, Thomas Stueber and his wife Rhonda of TN, John Stueber
and his wife Wendy of PA, Jennifer Grey and husband Paul, and
Joseph Stueber and his companion Jessica, great grandchildren,
Joshua, Justin, Chelsea and Shannen Kelly, Megan Grass, Von, Mason
and Dylan Stueber, Aaron Scott, Kelli and Matthew Brown, Taylor,
Samantha, Vanessa, and Levi Cohen, Sydney, Tanner and Zoe Stueber.
John, Steven and Kayla Stueber, Mikaela and Austin Grey, and 1
great great granddaughter, Ava Rose. Sophie is further
survived by her sister, Stacia Kelley, her brothers Louis Pirog and
his wife Nonnie of CO, Fred Pirog and his wife Patricia, and
Eugene Pirog and his wife Lois, many nieces, nephews, great nieces,
great nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. Sophie was
predeceased by her husband Frank, grandson Jimmy, granddaughter
Lori Brown Scott, sisters Agnes Pirog, Genievieve Derry and Johanna
Youngs, and daughter in law Patricia Gagan Stueber. Sophie is
further survived by the love of her life in her last years, by her
faithful little companion Shitzu "CHLOE" who never left her
side. Family and friends will be received on Friday October
29, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home,
1525 Burlingham RD Pine Bush. A Mass of Christian burial will
be offered on Saturday October 30, 2010 at 10:00am at the Church of
the Infant Saviour with Fr. Kevin Gallagher officiating.
Burial will take place in New Prospect Cemetery. In lieu of
flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan
Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct, Newburgh NY 12550 or to the Church of
the Infant Saviour Building Fund, 22 Holland Ave, Pine Bush NY
