Yanina Y. Swiat, 90, a
lifelong resident of Bullville and recent resident of Valley View
Rehabilitation Center in Goshen, NY entered into rest on Sunday,
February 9, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was
90.
The daughter of the late
Stefania Duokic and Bronislav Yaskorsynski, she was born on May 26,
1923 in Kielce, Poland. During the Second World War, she met her
future husband in a German work camp and together they immigrated
to the U.S. to begin a new life. Yanina was a fiercely devout
Catholic who believed that her faith helped her survive being taken
from her home and family by the German army when she was only 16
years old and guided her to a safe haven in the U.S.
Yanina was a homemaker and
her devotion to her family was evident in everything she did, from
her sewing talents to her marvelous Polish cooking. She was a solid
moral compass for her children and her beloved grandchildren and
great grandchildren.
Survivors include her son,
Andrew Swiat and wife, Denise of Bullville; daughter, Henia Zanetti
and husband, Michael, of Ormond Beach, FL; son, Krystof Swiat and
wife, Susan of Bullville; nine grandchildren and 12 great
grandchildren. Several relatives also survive in Canada, Australia
and Europe. Yanina was predeceased by her husband, Stefan Swiat and
her daughters, Cecelia Swiat Valada and MaryAnn Swiat.
Visitation will be held on
Wednesday, February 12, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the
William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc., 1525 Burlingham Road, Pine
Bush, NY. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
on Friday February 14, 2014 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's RC
Church, 2800 State Rte 17K, Bullville, NY with Fr. Sean Harlow,
O.Carm officiating. Burial will take place in New Prospect
Cemetery, Pine Bush.
In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions can be made to the Bullville Fire Dept.,
PO Box 225, Bullville, NY. 10915 or the
Pine Bush Volunteer Ambulance Corp., PO Box 407, Pine Bush,
NY 12566.
