Obituary of Elizabeth Wise

Elizabeth (Betty) Wise "Nana" Pine Bush, NY Elizabeth (Betty) Wise passed away at her home with her daughter by her side on July 13, 2009. She was 89. Born on March 15, 1920 in Highland, NY she was the daughter of the late Merrill R. George and Pearl Van Leuvan George. Her family later moved to Pen Argyl, PA, where she met and married her late husband Virgil M. Wise. She remained there until 1956. Betty then moved back to NY with her husband and 2 children and eventually settled in Pine Bush in 1959 where she spent the remainder of her life. She worked for several years in the office of Sears & Roebuck in Middletown. Betty was a golden Star Member (50 years) of The Order of the Eastern Star, Shutanka Chapter #202, member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 739 in Bangor, PA first, and then the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 5492 of The G. Paul Bettinger Post 1308. She was also elected Honorary Member of the Big T. Veterans Association for the USS Ticonderoga on which her husband Virgil served in WWII. Survivors include her daughter Betty Ann at home, her son David of Waco, Texas, 3 grandchildren, Tammy Weirs of Dolores, Co, Melanie Judice and Jason Wise of Spokane, WA. 5 great grandchildren, Vanessa Retcho of Pine Bush, NY, Danny, Desmond, and Ewan Judice and Brooklyn Michelle Wise all of Spokane WA. Betty was predeceased by her husband Virgil M. Wise and (adopted) grandson, Richard K. Retcho. Visitation will be held on Thursday July 16, 2009 from 5-7pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc. 1525 Burlingham Rd, Pine Bush. An Eastern Star service will take place at 6:30pm at the funeral home followed by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Funeral Services will be held on Friday July 17 2009 at 11:00am at the funeral home with Fr. Kevin Gallagher officiating. Burial will take place in New Prospect Cemetery.
