Obituary of Edmond C. Ziegler

Edmond "Ed" Charles Ziegler Formerly of Leonia, NJ Pine Bush, NY Edmond Ziegler, formerly of Leonia, NJ, passed away on Saturday September 12, 2009 at home, in Pine Bush, NY. Edmond was born December 13, 1926 in Mainz, Germany to Beatus Emil Ziegler and Johanna Maria Ortwein. His father, a WWI Army G.I., remained in Germany after the war to marry his mother, a German Fraulein. The family returned to New York City in 1931, where Ed lived until he enlisted at the age of 17, in the United States Navy. Ed served during WWII, aboard the USS Parle, in the Atlantic and the Pacific. Ed was married to his wife of over 60 years, Miriam Ziegler (nee Webster). They met at the Salvation Army Tremont Corp., where they attended church together, in the Bronx. They lived in Leonia, New Jersey from 1951 to 1987, where Ed served on the Leonia Police Force and then retired as a Bergen County Sheriff's Officer and also was a Judge's Aid.. Ed was a member of the NJ PBA, and the VFW of Leonia, NJ and Pine Bush, NY. Ed enjoyed his retirement years sharing time between his country home in Pine Bush, New York, and his beloved cottage in Kildare-By-The-Sea, Prince Edward Island, Canada. In addition to his wife Miriam, he is survived by his brother and sister in law, Leonard and Judy Ziegler, of Bellvedeire, New Jersey; his three children, Janet Ziegler Gordon and her husband, Pastor Paul Gordon of Pine Bush, NY, Warren "Ziggy" Ziegler, of Pine Bush, NY. Ginny Ziegler Martin of Pequannock, NJ; his grandchildren, Jennie Thompson of Walden, NY, Adam Gordon of Pine Bush, NY, Dutch and Jeb Ziegler of Tampa, FL., Larry, Jussley, Joelle, Lucas and Heather Martin, of Pequannock, NJ; great grandchildren, Kiersten Webster, Kylie and Meghan Thompson of Walden, NY, Allison Ziegler of Georgia. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Florence Rishawy and Antonia Keller. Visitation will be held on Thursday September 17, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc. 1525 Burlingham RD Pine Bush. Funeral Services will be held on Friday September 18, 2009 at 10:00am at the Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Gordon officiating. Burial will take place in Bloomingburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pine Bush VFW Post 5492, or Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550
