Simply the best Science teacher ever. I was a student of his in 1973. He was firm, but fair.I will never forget the famous "notebook checks"! He taught me how to be organized and what the word " miscellaneous " meant. He taught us not to kill spiders because they were beneficial to the environment. I remember getting up early to attend his morning extra help sessions before tests. The Legacy he leaves behind is that any student who had him as a teacher will never forget him. I consider myself fortunate to have been his student. They don't make teachers like him anymore, which is sad. Bless his Soul! My belated condolences to his family! --Richard Meyer (Walteroffer '73)

I'm so sorry to hear of John's passing. I knew him when I worked at the YMCA for 11 years, and we kept in touch through Christmas cards. My mom passed away in 2015, and I didn't send cards that year. I wasn't able to send cards again until this year, and today I received the card I mailed to John as undeliverable. I was hoping that he had moved, but a google search provided me with the sad news. He was a lovely man whom I was proud to call my friend.
My condolences and apologies on finding out so late. RIP John.

I had the pleasure of teaching with John at Waltoffer Ave. for many years. I was always impressed with how he was able to discipline his sixth graders with such affection. I think that initially his students feared him and ultimately loved him. There must be countless people out in the world who declare John as their favorite, most memorable, teacher. To me, John was a "gentle giant". I am sure he will be missed by many.

I just found out about John's passing today, when I saw a poster in his memory posted in the Wellness Center at the YMCA. I didn't know him very well, but used to see him at the Y all the time. He was always very kind and friendly. My deepest sympathies are with his family. He will be missed.

Dear Mrs. Giuliano,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband.....from reading about him, it is a loss for everyone who knew him. I'm sure your family is devastated. I will pray for him and your family.
You probably don't remember me, but my daughter was one of your kindergarten students at Park Avenue many moons ago (1985). Her name is Jennifer Lombardo. You might remember her by this....she would never want me to leave her at school....she would put up a fuss every morning and cry, scratch and throw punches at whoever was around. But, we all got through it! And today...she is the most gentle and lovely person that I know....she is expecting her first child. She became a professional make-up artist and travels the world doing celebrities and huge fashion events. She remembers you fondly as a kind and loving kindergarten teacher. Thank you for being so patient with her.....she turned out great....the product of great teachers!
I see that your husband was a great teacher also....what a gift to his students he was! I am terribly sorry for your loss. Modesta Lombardo
(P.S.) I've been working for North Bellmore UFSD for 26 years now in the District Office and at Saw Mill as a secretary)

It was my honor to work with both John and Eileen in North Bellmore when I was an art teacher there (for 33 years). When John brought his class to the art room, at Dinkelmeyer, he only needed to look at the class and they came to attention...and so did I! The classes loved him and his class was always the best behaved. In fact, I was a student in the N. Bellmore school district and had a friend who attended Waltoffer and had a crush on Mr. Giuliano! I'll always remember the excellent teachers at Waltoffer like John, Gloria DiRubba and Tom Norton. They worked as a team and turned out students who were respectful, well educated and were instilled with the love of learning.....that is quite a legacy. John will never be forgotten by his students or by the people he worked with.

My thoughts and prayers are with Kevin and the Giuliano family. I was fortunate to have Mr. Giuliano as a teacher at Waltoffer Elementary School in 6th grade and have never forgotten him. His impact has been lifelong. He was strict, yes but was also very caring. He always made time for us whether it was conversation or playing softball. When Kevin and I became friends, I was also able to get to know him outside the classroom. He was a great teacher and a better man, RIP Mr. G

Mr. Giuliano was my 6th grade Science teacher and I remember him vividly. He seemed so big and so demanding, but we loved him as a teacher. I recall him admonishing us not to smoke - VERY LOUDLY. I hope you all find peace in his memory - he certainly left a lasting impression on me.

A good man, a great teacher. I had been writing him until his passing. He was my first gym teacher at Waltoffer. Later, he was my Science and Math teacher in 6th grade. A most remarkable human being, he was kind, patient, strong, fair and an excellent role model for all of us. I will miss his letters as well. RIP!

I was a student of Mr. Giuliano 40 years ago. He was my 6th grade teacher at Waltoffer. I think and talk about him often. Everyone has stories of their favorite teacher and he was mine. He taught me to love math and science. I always remember the folded newspaper and Mr. Giuliano doing the crossword puzzle. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family. I will always remember entering 6th grade and being a little scared of him. He was so big, we were so little. Bless you Mr. G. You left a lasting impression.

Mr. Giuliano was the teacher that changed my academic life. He was nothing short of a legend at Dinkelmeyer. I am so sad to hear of his passing. I can tell you first hand how much of a difference this one man made in lives of so many children. My academic world was definitely much brighter after my one year with Mr. Giuliano. Thank you Mr. Giuliano for all that you did and all that you taught. You may be gone but you will certainly never be forgotten. Rest in peace.

I, too, had Mr. Giuliano as my 6th grade teacher at Waltoffer. He was a pretty tough teacher for us 6th graders, but boy, did we learn! We learned more than just our prime numbers (on which he drilled us ferociously), but we learned study skills, organization and discipline. My condolences to his family, but know that he left a lasting impression....Waltoffer class of 1968

Dear Kevin and family...each and every time I go near or on Webster St I think of you, mom and dad. Always, wondering how you all are in Orange County. Back when we were kiddies the block was so lively..all of us running from house to house..playing running bases, tag and the night game of hide and seek. Those were the days people knew what real fun was!! Then at the end of each summer I remember going to Park and helping mom and others set up, mostly mom.
Gosh how time flys..I pictured you all up there working on your farm forever..not knowing mom had passed and now dad. I think of you all often and always look for the green slate house..what great memories I have from growing up with you and your family..may you, your children and families be as happy and kind as your parents were..and are. Little by little the block is reunited..Cerros, my mom, Mr. Sanarude, .....

Almost 50 yrs later, nothing but wonderful memories of this man, who was my (and my brothers and countless others) sixth grade teacher at Waltoffer Avenue School. On a nice spring day, Mr. G would be outside, pitching to both sides during the 6 th grade lunchtime softball game. Another more personal incident-Mr. G made a mistake (in my favor) scoring a math test. When I showed this to him, he took the points away-then returned them as a reward for my honesty. Outstanding !! Final thought is this; Mr G wrote the following in my 6th grade album-"keep your eye on the ball..." Wasn't sure what it meant back in June '68...but eventually it made sense to me. Rest in peace Mr. Guiliano.

I was so sad to hear of the passing of my 6th grade teacher.
Mr Giuliano was such a nice man, very kind. (Although his rapid fire times tables drills scared me to death!) I also had Miss Delaney for my kindergarten teacher.
Both of these kind people gave me a great start in education. I didn't realize I lived so close (Walden). I remember them both fondly.
My sympathies to the family.

Almost 55 years ago I had Mr G in sixth grade. He was strict, compassionate and fair. One of the reasons I got into teaching was his approach to the students and life. My condolences to his family, it was an honor and a pleasure to have been in his class.
