It was with great sadness that we returned from vacation today, June 9th, to hear of George's passing. So sad we could not be there to offer our condolences in person. He was a significant person in my life serving as a great role model during my entire life in Pine Bush. In almost every role he played, he touched our lives in some significant way. Our deepest regards to the family and may he rest in peace. A true icon has left us. May God bless.

As JoAnn Russell's sister I was privileged to know George casually for many years. He was always the kindest, gentlest soul. Although I didn't see him often he treated me as a valued friend and member of the Russell family. I always enjoyed his quiet encouragement to others. I appreciate his service to our country, his community and to all who knew him. My sincerest condolences to all of George's family and friends, of which there seemed many. His is a great loss to all.

George, I may call myself your friend, and it is a joy for me. We knew each other perhaps less than two years, but you gave me, as many others, great gifts. Your smile, your handshake, your presence at the tables of the card games. This town is a great place because you lived here. Your family and we all, will continue to shape our Pine Bush in the spirit you have shown us. Thank you for your kindness. Steven

As VFW Post Commander 5492, I wish to reflect on how important George was to our membership. He was a Trustee of the organization. We would look to him for guidance and leadership concerning veteran issues here in Pine Bush. He attended many meetings up to his passing and was well respected and loved by all in the veterans community of Pine Bush. He reflected on his combat action the night he was wounded saying he should never have survived. How lucky we all were that he did survive so he could return home and continue on with his life, giving back to his community for all these years. A gentlemen, hero and patriot, I was proud to know him and I considered him a true friend and comrade. He will be sorely missed by all. Rest In Peace, Brother. Cory Kilvert VFW 5492 Post Commander
