Obituary of Barbara V. Roebuck
Barbara V. Roebuck
Montgomery, NY
Barbara V. Roebuck died peacefully at home Sunday February 11th at the age of 91. Barbara was born to Eleanor and Oscar Vogelbach on October 14, 1932 in North Arlington, NJ. She moved to Thompson Ridge, NY in the late 1930s where she has lived since. Barbara attended Pine Bush Schools, where she later became an English teacher and served the school district for 30 years - retiring in 1991 to spend more time with her children and grandchildren.
Barbara, affectionately known as the Queen of her Clan, was a lover of classical music, literature, family history, and Hopewell Presbyterian Church. Her early retirement years were spent traveling, correcting everyone's poor grammar, participating in Hopewell’s Choir, an active Elder on the Session, chauffeuring grandchildren to school and making sure her opinions were always heard. Barbara was a beloved member in the “Bag Ladies” book club and always enjoyed an engaging conversation and a good laugh shared with those special ladies. Barbara cultivated many friendships through the years and often had previous students come up to her to express their gratitude for the lessons she taught both in and out of the classroom. In her later years, you could find her enjoying a slower pace of life watching the birds hop from feeder to feeder, reading or watching British movies surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Barbara was predeceased by her Husband, Walter Roebuck, Brothers Ted and Bob, and Sisters Ethel (“Sis”), and Eleanor. Barbara is survived by her Daughters: Holly Roebuck Montgomery, NY, Lynn Boynton (Chris) Belfast, ME and her Son Ned Roebuck (Valerie) Wilson, NC, Grandchildren: Eleanor Tauro (Dante) Asbury Park, NJ, Eliza Decker (Jeremy) Skaneateles, NY, Jesslyn Hollar (Jim) Hyde Park, NY, Tyler Roebuck (Anastasia) Newburgh, NY, Logan Roebuck (Kassidy) Wurtsboro, NY, Kaity Judson (John) Montgomery, NY as well as 10 great grandchildren and numerous beloved nieces and nephews across the country whom Barbara adored. A special thank you to Cathy and Robin for their exceptional care and compassion for the last year of Barbara’s life.
A Celebration of Life will be held June 1, 2024 at Hopewell Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hopewell Presbyterian Church, Thompson Ridge, NY
