Joseph N. Nicholson, a Retired Decorated Brother of the FDNY, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2016 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was 76. The son of the late Michael Nicholson and Alice Commerton Nicholson, he was born of December 20, 1939 in Howard Beach, NY. Joseph was married to Lois C. Golden Nicholson on August 7, 1966 until her untimely death. He was in the 82nd airborne and was also a respected and decorated brother of the FDNY lastly serving in Engine 43 Ladder 59 in the Bronx until his retirement in 1986. Joseph is survived by his 4 children, Cynthia J. Johnson and her husband Dave of Walden, NY Danielle J. Nicholson of Jacksonville FL, Craig Nicholson of Louisville KY, William M. Nicholson and his wife Wendy of Pine Bush, NY. 7 grandchildren, Jenette Johnson, Tyler, Kyle, and Dylen Worthington, Jacob and Jolie Nicholson and Olivia Nicholson. 3 step grandchildren, Michael and Alex Johnson, and Lillian Byrne. He is further survived by his girlfriend of many years affectionately known as his “sweetie” Miss Elizabeth Gardner of Pine Bush and his second family the Gidas, Joseph, Patricia, Brian, Jimmy and Joey of Newburgh. We wish to thank them for the many years of happiness he had with you and for all the love and caring you had provided with him over the years. Joseph is predeceased by his sister, SR. Margaret Mary Nicholson. He will be missed but now he is free. Friends and family may gather on Monday March 14, 2016 from 4-8pm at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home Inc. 1525 Burlingham RD Pine Bush NY. A representative of the FDNY will be in full uniform and will be standing guard during this time. A memorial service will be held at 7:30pm and The US Army Honor Guard will commence their flag folding ceremony with presentation of the US Flag immediately following.
