Dear Tina, Little James, Christopher and Stephanie,
Please accept my deepest condolences. Your were so blessed to have Jay as a husband, father and grandfather. I and many others were blessed to have him as a friend. I will always cherish the memories of driving back late from a Moving Star gig. Jay at the wheel, me in the passenger seat, everyone else asleep in the back of the van. We would listen to the great tape compilations Jay made - Luna, 13th Floor Elevators - and talk and talk. Thank you, Jay for everything you contributed at the Bowery Poetry Club, Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival, The Andy Warhol Museum, Lowell Celebrates Kerouac (especially the first time with David Amram), and opening for Patti Smith at Summerstage in Central Park, to name a few particularly memorable gigs. Jay was a great guitarist and composer. Most of all he was one of the most genuine people ever. I have a heavy heart, and I can't imagine you devastation. We all thought the angles intended for him to spend more time with us. But I guess they wanted him to join them so much, they took him before anyone was ready. These words don't come close. Love and prayers to you all.

Tina and Jay have a love story that most aspire to. I have fond memories of Jay from my teen years - djing my sweet sixteen and later in life my wedding. I have fond memories of Tina brushing my hair when I was 6. I have fond memories of James playing a talent show in middle school that rocked the house.:) My mom knows and loves Chris and his wife and children. She has spoken so highly of them for so many years. What a beautiful family. A testament to Jay and Tina. Rest in Peace and may God be with you all.

Dear Tina and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Jay's passing. I have many fond memories of listening to Jay's stories while practicing or traveling down to NYC with Moving Star on various adventures. He was the nicest person I've ever met! He had a quiet gentle side that would light up when taking about music and his family. He was an incredible guitar player! As a drummer, he taught me so much about creativity and improvisation. Most of all, I will miss his enthusiasm, kindness, and gentle spirit. I will never forget you, Jay! Please accept my deepest condolences during this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Sincerely,
Sean Healy

To Jay's family,
My sincere condolences on the loss of Jay.
Jay was a friend of mine and always praised my poetry whenever he heard me read. I enjoyed listening to him play guitar with Shrubs, and Janet Hamill's poetry ensemble, Moving Star.
He was liked many of the poets in our region.
Most sincerely,
Robert Milby

I'm so very sorry to hear about Jay.
I was fortunate enough to have met him when his band the "Shrubs" played at a bar in London and then the next day at the Cavern in Liverpool. My friend Brian was playing guitar with them for that event and I found out about it and just happened to be traveling to London at that exact time. I couldn't believe the lucky timing that we were in London at the same time that the Shrubs were playing their gigs.
After the London/Liverpool excursion I struck up a friendship with the band and they came to Washington, DC several times to play at a local bar in Dupont Circle. I was invited up to sing and play the guitar with them a few times and even received some recordings of those wonderful moments. The band was so much fun with their props and upbeat songs, a real breath of fresh air in DC.
I feel so fortunate to have met Jay.
Please accept my heartfelt thoughts to the family during this difficult time.
I'll be blasting some Beatles and Shrubs in honor of Jay.

It is with heart felt sorry to hear the loss of this great man James W LoRubbio. I was a former resident of Pine Bush and James sons Christopher and James were often with my sons in after school activities. James W first impression to me was he was a kind and giving person. He also had a great sense of humor. He will be sadly missed by myself and my family.

Jay was like my brother. Although the last few years we did not see each other that much we were still close. This loss hit me very hard and I am still trying to deal with it. We have gone to many Rock shows the last few years and were planning several upcoming events. He did love all kinds of music. He also was knowledgeable in all aspects of the bands we would go see. We were to see Rick Derringer, Todd Rundgren, Robin Trower, Dweezel Zappa, and Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree.(shows you the diverse list of performers he liked). I will miss him terribly at these shows and any that I go to in the future. We were cousins, friends, musicians together, and partners. We had our moments when he would aggravate me and I am sure that I aggravated him. But I loved him and his whole family. I said that I see his face in all his children and grandchildren. There was no mistaking the resemblance. I will see him in all their faces when I see them. A beautiful legacy he has left.
