James “Jay” LoRubbio, of Pine Bush, passed away suddenly on March 6th 2018 at Westchester Medical Center while surrounded by his loving family. The son of Vincent and Angelina (Riccardi), Jay was born in Brooklyn, New York. Jay was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1975, having proudly served his country along with later becoming a member of the G. Paul Bettinger Post 1308 American Legion. Living much of his life in Pine Bush, Jay married the love of his life Tina (DiStefano)in 1977, having courted her for years in church prior to their marriage. They built a beautiful family with three loving children. Jay’s life comprised of many passions and hobbies, but nothing was more important to him than his family and his love of music. At the young age of 8 years old, Jay played his accordion at Carnegie Hall. Throughout the years, Jay was a member of many bands, including ‘The Squires’, ‘The Boffo’s’, ‘The Shrubs’ and the ‘Armedalite Rifles’. Being a lifelong Beatles fanatic, Jay had the honor of once playing in a show at the Cavern Club in London, England - the place where the Beatles were discovered. He played in hundreds of shows, toured across the country, and released a handful of records. His music creativity was probably one of his most-unique traits, having recorded things as basic as frogs croaking in his front yard and making music out of it. Jay spent his career employed as a Production Control Coordinator at Konica Minolta in Goshen and as a supervisor at Reynolds Metals in Middletown. He retired from his career three years ago to spend more time with his grandsons and further enjoy some of his hobbies. Anyone that knew Jay would tell you that he was one of the nicest and most humble individuals one would ever meet. Jay was always more than willing to help with a project or do a favor for you, not ever expecting anything to return. The one thing he enjoyed most was seeing family and being around those whom he loved most. Surviving are his wife Tina of Pine Bush, his son James of Pine Bush, his son Christopher and wife Jessica of Pine Bush, and his daughter Stephanie and son-in-law Bret of Hawthorne, New Jersey, grandsons Christopher, Nicholas, and Vincent. Too many cousins, extended cousins, and friends to list as Jay valued many of his friends from ‘the Brooklyn neighborhood’ (among others) and cousins as brothers and sisters. Visitation will be at William M. Gagan Funeral Home in Pine Bush, NY on Sunday March 11th from 1-4 and 6-8pm. A mass will be held on Monday March 12th at 10:00am at the Church of the Infant Savior in Pine Bush, with burial following shortly thereafter at New Prospect Cemetery with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pine Bush Fire Company in memory of Jay. Please listen to your favorite Beatles song tonight as a fond way to remember him.
